Dr Philip Jumeau

Dr Philip Jumeau is an Australian-trained Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon. His practice focuses on nasal airway surgery, structural nasal reconstruction and the surgical management of nasal obstruction.
He graduated with honours from Monash University in 1996 and completed advanced surgical training across major Victorian hospitals including the Royal Children’s Hospital, The Alfred Hospital, Austin and Repatriation Hospital, Western General Hospital and Monash Health. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in ENT, Head and Neck Surgery in 2005.
Scope of practice
Dr Jumeau’s work centres on functional nasal airway problems. This includes surgery for deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, turbinate enlargement, chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps and the structural effects of nasal trauma.
A significant proportion of his caseload involves complex reconstruction and revision surgery for patients whose previous nasal procedures have not achieved the desired breathing result. He has broad experience in nasal reconstruction following significant trauma, including in athletes across multiple sports.
Training and mentorship
Between 2018 and 2021, Dr Jumeau trained full-time alongside Professor Anthony Holmes, Craniofacial Surgeon at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. This intensive one-on-one mentorship in the office and operating room was a major factor in his relocation from Queensland back to Victoria.
He held a consultant appointment at Monash Health from 2014 to 2020, working and teaching in nasal surgery within a major tertiary surgical unit.
Rural and regional experience
Dr Jumeau worked for 14 years in both public and private ENT practice in Cairns, North Queensland, serving as the region’s primary provider of ENT services. This broad generalist background built strong experience across otology (ear surgery), rhinology (nasal and sinus surgery) and paediatric ENT surgery.
He has also undertaken remote and international surgical service work through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and AusAID, including visits to Micronesia, the Solomon Islands and Cape York communities. Through this work, he has developed considerable experience in Indigenous Australian ENT health.
Teaching and academic involvement
Dr Jumeau teaches and operates at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He regularly presents at national and international surgical conferences and is actively involved in surgical education at both trainee and specialist level.
